Operating on Medium Voltage Networks

For a person to be appointed as an Authorised person to perform Operating on Medium Voltage Networks there is a formal process that needs to be followed. This includes a few different training courses that is a pre-requisite for qualifying for the operating course.

The process includes the following steps:

  • Training on a simulator
  • Completing a Portfolio of Evidence (POE) at the work place under the supervision of an authorised person
  • Apply for Final Assessment
  • Final Assessment is done in line with your companies Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Operating
  • Recommendation for authorisation on completion to your company
  • The Engineer at your company needs to do the final Authorisation
  •

Pre-requisites for qualifying to attend the operating course on our simulator:

  • Valid ORHVS certificate (not older than 2 years)
  • Valid First Aid Level 2 certificate (not older than 2 years)
  • Valid HIRA certificate (not older than 2 years)
  • Valid Equipotential Earthing certificate (not older than 2 years)
  • Valid Supervision in Electrical Areas certificate (not older than 2 years)
  •

The full Operating on Medium Voltage Networks programme can be offered in 3 different variations that will depend on the learners and company needs. This will allow us to concentrate on the learners needs and not spend time on unnecessary training when it’s not needed. The breakdown is as follow:

    Full programme

This programme will cover all required training to enable a learner to perform Operating on Medium Voltage Networks which includes both cable and overhead networks.

    Cable network programme

This programme will cover all required training to enable a learner to perform Operating on Medium Voltage Networks concentrating on cable networks.

    Overhead line programme

This programme will cover all required training to enable a learner to perform Operating on Medium Voltage Networks concentrating on overhead networks.

For all the above there will be some courses that will apply to all options and then some programmes for the specifics depending on the programme selected.

Training programme breakdown is as follow:

    Applicable to all selections

  • Operating Regulations for High Voltage Systems - 5 day Theory course with some assignments.
  • First Aid Level 2 – 2 day Theory and practical course with some assignments.
  • Hazzard Identification and Risk Assessment – 2 day Theory course with some assignments.
  • Supervision in Electrical Areas – 2 day Theory and practical course
  • Operating on MV Networks – 10 day Theory and practical course
  •

For Cable Networks the below will be added

  • Cable Identification and Spiking – 2 day Theory and Practical Course
  •

For Overhead Line Networks the below will be added

  • Equipotential Earthing – 4 day Theory and Practical Course
  •

For the full training programme it will include all the above courses.

The last course to be completed from the above is the Operating on Medium Voltage Networks course.
